From KJ Motorsports
This weekend the KJ Motorsports Team competed in a Track sanctioned event at the East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Florida.
Keith ran this event as Amanda was at New Smyrna Speedway running a late model this night.
In practice the car had some fuel system issues, so the team did not get much practice before the car needed to be worked on. The fuel system was cleaned and car was prepped for the heat race.
A total of 19 cars showed up for the event. Keith was in the first heat and started 8th. During the 6 lap heat race, Keith had to lockup the brakes to avoid hitting an out of control car. Locking up the brakes caused Keith to spin. The field was reset and Keith restarted from the rear of the field. Keith worked his way back up through the field and was able to finish in the 5th position.
Between the heat and the feature, the KJ Motorsports crew along with Doug Shaw, who is the chassis builder for Keith’s car, made some major changes to the car. They changed the wing angle and position, stagger, left rear tire and shock, re-blocked the car and other various changes. With these changes made, the car was ready to be rolled out on to the front-stretch for the start of the feature.
Keith lined up 8th for the start of the 15 lap feature. The feature had its share of cautions. One of the early cautions involved leaders Kurt Taylor and Gene Lasker who made contact in turn four. Taylor was able to continue, but this accident ended Lasker’s night. Keith kept on top of the wheel and made his way forward during the feature. Keith was faster when the field would go green for a while, the cautions slowed his momentum and as the checkered flag flew, Keith was in the 4th position battling with the 2nd and 3rd place runners
In the final finishing order Kurt Taylor ended up winning the race with Danny Jones, Tim George, Keith and Rocky Sullivan in the top five.
KJ Motorsports will next compete back on the asphalt, with the TBARA Series on September 18th at DeSoto Super Speedway, in Bradenton, FL.
The next dirt race for KJ Motorsports will be back at the East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL, on September 25th.
