Over the weekend, Cody Darrah put together a very solid weekend, as he charged from 18th to fourth on Saturday at Haubstadt, a night after losing a joint while leading much of the feature in Sedalia, MO.
“It was a nice weekend for our Kasey Kahne Racing team,” said Darrah. “I would of liked to have picked up the win Friday, but this team is starting to click.”
Friday night was dubbed the Sage Fruit Showdown at the State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO, and Darrah got off to a quick start as he timed in ninth quick on the big, slick ½ mile track.
Scoring a fifth place finish in his heat, Darrah put his Schroth Racing/Sage Fruit/Team ASE backed entry on the pole of the dash, that he went on to win, and earned the pole for the 25-lap feature.
Getting the jump over Danny Lasoski at the start of the feature, Darrah paced the field early, and looked impressive doing so.
Staving off the pack on a couple of early restarts, Darrah lost the point on the fifteenth lap, as he began losing his left rear tire.
‘Babying’ the deteriorating left rear during the last portion of the race, Darrah actually brought out the final caution of the night on lap 22 as he lost a U-Joint in his car, and was scored with an 18th place finish.
“It would have been awesome to win with all of the Sage Fruit people in attendance, but that’s part of it,” said Darrah.
Saturday night the series traveled to Haubstadt where they took to the high-banked ¼ mile facility.
With 31 cars on hand, Darrah started off with his biggest blemish of the night, an 18th place qualifying effort.
“We just read the track wrong, and made a couple of bad adjustments for qualifying that put us in the back all night,” said Darrah.
Starting sixth in his heat, Darrah was able to get his Factory Kahne Shocks/Roth Motorsports/KKR machine up to the fourth spot, transferring him into the 40-lap feature, where he gridded the field from the 18th spot.
Over the next 40-laps Darrah thrilled the crowd as he made several daring moves as he worked his way through the field.
Darrah could put his Justin Adams prepared mount both high and low as he fought to the front.
“My guys had this thing perfect tonight,” said Darrah. “It’s really a shame we started so far back.”
When the dust settled on the event, Darrah earned the KSE Hard Charger Award as he crossed the stripe in the fourth spot.
“I can’t thank Kasey Kahne enough for continuing to let us race with very limited backing,” Darrah explained. “We’ve been clicking as of late, so I’m hoping we can end up in the circle soon.”
ON TAP- Cody Darrah and his Kasey Kahne Racing team will now gear up for three exciting nights of action starting Thursday night in Farmer City, IL before heading to Eagle, NE on Friday and Knoxville, IA on Saturday.
