CONCORD, N.C. – May 11, 2012 – World Racing Group is excited to announce a new partnership with Cell Phones for Soldiers as part of its “Outlaws Give Back” charitable initiative.
The World of Outlaws and Cell Phones for Soldiers will kick off their efforts with a cell phone drive Friday, May 25, at the Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Every fan with an adult paid admission ticket who donates a cell phone will receive a free fan pit pass upgrade.
Used and unwanted cell phones will be collected throughout the summer at World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events across the country. Fans can drop off gently used phones at the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series souvenir trailer or at the World Racing Group office in Concord, N.C. Postage paid donation bags will also be available at both locations for anyone wishing to make a donation after they return home. The donated cell phones are sent to Michigan-based ReCellular, the world’s largest recycler of used mobile devices. The money raised provides deployed and returning troops cost-free methods to communicate with family while serving in the United States military.
“We want to come out of the gate strong with our Cell Phones for Soldiers fundraising efforts, and the timing couldn’t be better than at the Memorial Day weekend event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte,” World Racing Group CEO Brian Carter said. “We believe in what Cell Phones for Soldiers is doing and we are able to help mobilize their efforts at 27 of our events throughout the summer. We also plan to take this program to Super DIRT Week in Syracuse, N.Y., in October and then back to Charlotte in November at the Lowes Foods World Finals. Dirt track fans are the best fans in the world and their generosity will make this a success.”
For every donated phone valued at just $5, Cell Phones for Soldiers is able to provide two-and-a-half hours of free talk time to deployed troops. It is estimated that 130 million cell phones will be replaced each year in the U.S. alone. Donating a phone provides a soldier with free means of communication with their families, as well as keeping cell phones out of landfills.
