Kaley Gharst – World of Outlaws Loom This Weekend!

By Bill W

June 5, 2012 – After a three-race weekend with the 410, Kaley Gharst and the Jeremy Scadden #6 team will be back at it this weekend, with three shows, two of them with the World of Outlaws. Things start Friday night at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, move onto the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on Saturday, and then return to the Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota on Sunday night.

Kaley and the team started things on Friday night at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minnesota with the IRA. They would start with a flourish and a heat win. “They called off time trials with a chance of rain and the weather moving in,” says Kaley. “The decided to go with the passing points. We got to start on the pole of the heat and we went on to win that.”

The Decatur, Illinois driver drew the pole for the feature event, but would fade to sixth with a mechanical issue. “We were just way off,” says Kaley. “We fell back to sixth. At the end of the night, we found that the left front shock was bad. That didn’t help us too much either.”

The IRA traveled next to Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin on Saturday. After qualifying ninth, Kaley lined up outside row two of his heat race. “We were able to win the heat,” he says. “There was a really good top on the track and you could run it around there really well. The redraw on that started us tenth in the feature.”

There was excitement headed in, but it was drowned by one-lane track conditions that relegated Kaley to a seventh place finish. “It was rubber-down,” he says. “We were able to get up to seventh. We were able to get by a few cars, despite it being rubber-down, so you can’t ask for too much more. It’s a fun, racy track; it’s too bad it took rubber. They had a 40-lap late model feature go out before us, and it laid rubber with them. They tried to tear it up, but it only lasted about five laps.”

On Sunday night, Kaley qualified seventh quick, and ran sixth in the heat. “We were a little snug in time trials,” he says. “We ran fourth in the heat, and we were still a little tight.”

He would start seventh and finish seventh in the feature. “There wasn’t much to say,” he says. “It was another rubber-down track.”
