With the scheduled Cancen Oil King of the West race in Tulare, CA cancelled, Jonathan Allard made a couple of local appearances as he picked up the win on Friday night at his home track, The Silver Dollar Speedway, before just falling short of his first 360ci win of the year as he ran second at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
Showing up at the Silver Dollar Speedway, Jonathan Allard and his Williams Motorsports team are always a threat to win as they had already picked up two wins at the track earlier in the season.
Timing eight fastest in time trials, the driver simply known as ‘JA’ quickly got to the point in his heat race, and picked up the win putting him in the second row for the feature event.
After initial pole sitter, Stu Krum flipped coming out of turn four on the first lap, the complete restart saw the current Cancen Oil KWS points leader take over the pole position.
When the green flag dropped, Allard simply took off and left the field behind as he worked around the bottom of the racy ¼ mile speedway.
Allard was simply un challenged during the feature until the last few laps when he was in thick traffic, allowing Mason Moore to close in on his rear bumper.
JA would get through traffic with no problems and go on and pick up the very popular win.
“I love coming to Chico and racing at home,” said JA. “This place has always been good to me, and tonight was no different. Ashely Smith and the guys gave me a great car, and I have to thank Morrie and Katie Williams for letting us do our thing this weekend.”
Saturday night, JA and the Williams Motorsports team headed up to the Placerville Speedway to take part in the 7th Annual Mark Forni Classic.
Kicking the night off by setting the fastest time of the night, JA then proceeded to charged from sixth in his heat race to pick up the win.
The eight-inversion pill was pulled, meaning Allard would be relegated to the fourth row, but that seemed to be no issue for him.
In just 10-laps, JA had worked his way all the way up to the second spot as he challenged early leader, Andy Forsberg, for the top spot as they raced in traffic.
Running the famed, high, cushion at the speedway, Allard rocketed around Forsberg on the 14th lap, bringing the capacity crowd to their feet as the two drivers thrilled them.
In the closing laps, the duo continued to battle, and with the white flag in the air, Forsberg was able to get under Allard in the first turn, and narrowly beat him back to the finish line, keeping JA at bay and in the second spot.
“That was a fun race we had with Forsberg,” said Allard. “He knows how to get around this place pretty good. Unfortuatnely I missed it a little on the last lap, and gave him the opening he needed, but it was fun, and I want to congratulate him and his team.”
ON TAP: JA will now be back in action on July 21st at the Antioch Speedway as he looks to extend his points lead.
