TK Tough at Tulare

Any time Tim Kaeding checks into the Tulare Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA he is on the odds on favorite to win, and he didn’t disappoint over the weekend as he picked up his second World of Outlaws victory on Friday night, before charging from 16th to a sixth place starting postion on Saturday night, on a track that not many people moved on.

“This Roth Motorsports team has a great car rolling right now, and it is a pleasure to drive,” Kaeding said.

With 32 cars checked in on Friday night, the San Jose, CA driver timed his Roth Enterprises/Mobil1/Weld Wheels machine in 11th fastest putting him on the front row of his heat race win.

Grabbing the lead on the green, TK would go on to win his heat before scoring a sixth place finish in the Dash, putting him in the third row for the 35-lap feature event.

On a very tricky track, Kaeding was quick to work his way up into the second spot, as he challenged Donny Schatz during the early portion of the race.

On a lap 15 restart, Schatz bounced into the wall, and Kaeding inherited the lead.

Out in front, Kaeding was in strong command of the feature as he navigated through thick lapped traffic.

As the laps wound down, Cody Darrah closed in on Kaeding, and actually got under him on the last lap, but Kaeding was able to escape with the very popular win.

“Our car was great, and we were battling pretty good with Donny (Schatz), but he had some bad luck on a restart, and we took advantage.”

Back in action on Saturday, TK made things a touch tougher on himself, as he timed in 16th quickest. Normally that would of put him on the front row of a heat, but with only 31 cars checked in opposed to 32, a three car heat format was utilized and he missed the inversion.

Starting sixth in his heat, TK got tangled with Cody Darrah, and he ultimately got upside down.

Restarting with top-wing damage, he was unable to make the transfer, but proceeded to win the B, and earn a spot in the feature event.

With a rubber down race track becoming apparent prior to the race pushing off, Kaeding prepared himself to do whatever it took to move forward, knowing passing would be very, very tough.

Getting creative, and beating guys to the rubber in turns one and two, Kaeding was able to nearly gain spots at will.

Keeping his tires under him, TK would charge from the 16th spot to a score a sixth place finish, right on the heels of fifth place.

“Unfortunately I put us in a hole qualifying, and we ended up starting deep in the main on a really poor track,” he said. “The car was awesome and we were able to make some things happen and get up to sixth.”

Tim and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, Mobil1, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Astro Titanium, 3H Cattle, Kaeding Performance, and Kent Performance Center for their support in 2013.
