DNQ for Covington at Devils Bowl

Racing is a tricky sport. Throw in some of the best drivers in the country, along with un predictable weather, and it makes it that more difficult.

Friday night, Matt Covington and his Covington Racing team took on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at the Devils Bowl Speedway with drizzly conditions, and the Glenpool, OK pilot was unable to get his T&L Foundry/Triple X Chassis/Winters machine out of the B.

“We had a great starting spot for our heat, but we just misjudged the track, did not make the proper adjustments to our car, and went backwards,” Covington said.

Starting on the pole of his heat, Covington’s machine was far too lose on the greasy track, and he simply dropped like a rock, and went backwards.

Unable to find traction, Covington would slip back to the fourth spot, and with the ASCS format, would be headed to the B main.

Starting sixth in the B, the track will still tricky with a misty drizzle hounding the drivers, but Covington was able to get his Winters/Brodix/C.G. Martin entry up into contention for the transfer, but contact forced him into the infield, and he slipped back to the fifth spot, and missed the transfer.

“We had a good car in the B, and were right there for a transfer spot, but in all reality, we should of handled business in the heat, and we would not have been in that position,” he said. “On the bright side, we learned from our early mistakes, and put a really competitive car on the track later in the night.”

Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-4, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2

ON TAP: Matt and his team will return to action this coming Saturday night at the 81 Speedway.
