Competing at the King’s Speedway on Saturday night, Steven Tiner scored a seventh place finish during the Pombo Sargent Classic as the Rebel Cup Series took on the Civil War Series.
“It was a great night of racing, and the track was awesome,” Tiner said.
With 44 cars on hand, Tiner timed the Western Metal Company machine in eighth quickest during qualifications.
Starting fifth in his heat, Tiner and his No.37 machine were very good early, as he charged to a third place heat race finish, putting him safely in the feature event.
Rolling off the for the feature event in the fourth row, Tiner would essentially work from fifth to seventh all race long, as the track was in slide-job shape.
Racing with Peter Murphy much of the race, Tiner and him exchanged the fifth spot for nearly the entire race, as they battled wheel-to-wheel, exchanging slide-jobs.
Battling with the Australian late in the race, Tiner got a little too sideway, and as he tried to get back in the throttle, he spun his tires, and slipped back to the seventh spot, where he would go on to finish.
“It was a really fun night, and the track was a blast,” he said. “There was some good battles going on all night, and I just got a little out of shape at the end, which cost us a top-five.”
