LaSALLE, Ill. (June 17, 2013) – Although he hasn’t spent much time competing at LaSalle Speedway, Joey Saldana looks forward to the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series return on Friday, June 28.
Saldana, who is in search of his first victory of the season, claimed the 2010 event – the last time the premier sprint car series visited the quarter-mile oval.
“I never really raced there much, but it’s pretty similar to a lot of the track that I grew up at,” he said. “It produces very good, close racing.”
Saldana and Paul McMahan put on a thrilling show during the 2010 race. McMahan led the first 21 laps as Saldana worked forward from his sixth starting position. On a restart on Lap 22, Saldana powered to the lead around the high groove and maintained the lead through traffic to earn his first career win at LaSalle Speedway.
“It’s definitely one of those tracks that you get after it,” he said. “Lapped traffic plays a big part of it.”
Saldana is one of seven winners in the eighth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series races at LaSalle Speedway. Steve Kinser, a 20-time series champion, is the only driver to record multiple victories.
Dave Blaney, Sammy Swindell, Mark Kinser, Stevie Smith and Danny Lasoski also each have one win at the high-banked track.
