Kicking his season off at the East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL over the weekend, Carson McCarl and his Mastell Brothers Racing team showed some speed, and when the weekend came to a close, McCarl finished fifth in the Saturday night B.

“We had an okay weekend,” McCarl said. “I made some mistakes myself, but I think we will be okay moving forward.”

Kicking the three day event off on Thursday night, McCarl lined his Mastell Brothers Trailer Service/Deanfield Farms/Berryhill Racing machine up on the front row of his heat race.

Finishing in the second spot, Carson McCarl sat 14th in points, locking himself into the 25 lap feature event, where he would start in the seventh row.

The track on Thursday night took rubber early, and really made passing difficult. Starting on the outside, McCarl tried to make something happen on the start and gain positions, but wasn’t able drop down on the rubber quick enough, and ended up losing spots.

As the race wore on, it turned into a parade in the rubber, and McCarl wound up finishing in the 18th spot.

Returning to the speedway on Friday night, McCarl lined his Rossie Feed & Grain/DeBerg Concrete/K&N backed machine up in the third row of a stout heat race. Scoring a fifth place finish in his heat, McCarl was forced to run the evening’s B Main event.

Lining up sixth in his B main, McCarl had some issues early in the race that forced him to the back of the pack, and he was unable to fight his way up into a top-two finish and his night came to an early end.

The Saturday night format lined heat races up by two-day event points with the heat winners transferring to the main event, and the top two finishers in B main completion also transferring, and McCarl sat 27th in points, putting him fourth in the first heat.

On a very greasy surface, McCarl jumped into the third spot, as he chased after Jason Sides and Jac Haudenschild but was unable to track down the two veteran drivers, and went to a B main for one final chance at transferring to the feature event.

Staring in the third spot, McCarl got a bad start on the narrow track, and slipped back to the fifth spot, and was unable to rebound. Trying to fight his way back up into a top-two finish, McCarl was unable to do so, and his weekend was over.

“I have to thank everyone who made this trip possible,” McCarl said. “It was a tough field of cars all week long, and I made some mistakes that hurt us, but I think we learned some things, and shook off some rust. It was nice to get back in the seat, and I’m looking forward to our next race.”

The Mastell Motorsports team would like to thank Mastell Brothers Trailer Service, Deanfield Farms, Berryhill Racing, Rossie Feed & Grain, DeBerg Concrete, K&N Filters, Hinchman Racewear, Engler Injection, VDB Designs, Phil & Vivian, CM Rock, Vortex Racing Products, Hoosier Tire, Justice Brothers/Gillund Ent., Bell Helmets, Schoenfeld Headers, Aurora Rod Ends, HRP, ButlerBuilt, KSE Steering, Crow Safety, BMRS, and Winters Performance for their support during the 2014 season.
