Spencer, Iowa — September 9, 2015 — When the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series rolls into Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, September 18 for the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout, just 14 race nights will remain on the calendar for 2015. The stretch run that leads to the World Finals in Charlotte is a pivotal time as drivers battle to move up in the point standings and carry momentum into the off-season. In addition to the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the Miniakota Micros (Micro-Sprints) and Legend cars will also be on the card during the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout at Clay County Fair Speedway.
Donny Schatz has turned in a dominant season this year, picking up 27 wins through September 7. The North Dakota native is the winningest driver with the series at Clay County Fair Speedway, with four victories, dating back to the series inaugural visit to the track in 2007. Schatz repeated by visiting victory lane at the three-eighths-mile in 2008. He also won in 2012 and 2013 at Clay County Fair Speedway. Last year he charged from 11th to sixth in the 30-lap main event. The six-time and defending series champion recently won his 200th career World of Outlaws A-Feature event, making him just the third driver in series history to accomplish that feat.
Kraig Kinser won at Clay County Fair Speedway for the first time last year. The second-generation driver had come close to winning at the past at the track, including in the inaugural race in 2007, when he led the majority of the laps, before Schatz got by him late. For Kinser, his win last year was his first of the season, and he is again chasing his first win of 2015, heading into the event this year.
Brad Sweet, who picked up his first career World of Outlaws win in June of 2012 at Clay County Fair Speedway, led the first 12 laps of the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout last year, before Kinser took the top spot. Sweet ended up finishing fourth. The Californian, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing, is currently fifth in points on the strength of three wins in 2015.
Kerry Madsen, the lone full-time driver on the World of Outlaws circuit that calls Iowa home, finished second at Clay County last year. The veteran driver is third in points and has one win thus far in 2015, driving for the Keneric Racing team, which is owned by a pair of Australian brothers. Madsen also hails from Australia, with sprint car racing having brought him to the United States earlier in his career.
Also in action on Friday, September 18 in the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout will be Joey Saldana, who finished third at Clay County Fair Speedway last year, as well as fellow veteran drivers Paul McMahan, 2013 World of Outlaws champion Daryn Pittman, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing and Jason Sides. Young guns that are following the circuit in 2015 that will be in attendance include David Gravel, Logan Schuchart, who was fastest in time trials last year at Clay County and Jacob Allen.
Jason Johnson, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award, will be making his first trip to Clay County Fair Speedway. The native of Eunice, Louisiana, missed nearly three months of action earlier this season due to fractured vertebrae suffered in a crash in California in the spring.
