One year ago in World of Outlaws sprint car action at Port Royal Speedway, California’s Brad Sweet took home the victory after taking the lead from Lucas Wolfe on lap 14.

Sweet then saw Daryn Pittman get by for the lead in traffic with eight laps to go before a restart two laps later gave Sweet a second chance for the win, which he made good on for a .455 second victory over Pittman and Donny Schatz.

The question this year will be to what extent can Greg Hodnett and Lance Dewease defend Pennsylvania Posse turf at Port Royal as both drivers have been the hottest in the area and at the track this season.

Hodnett scored seven times alone at Port Royal this year and is the winningest driver in the east aboard Mike Heffner’s No. 27 machine while Dewease himself scored the two biggest races of the year at the track by taking the Dream Race and the Tuscarora 50, driving for Don Kreitz Jr. in the No. 69K.

Ironically, Kreitz’s car beat the outlaws once before at Port Royal with Kreitz himself behind the wheel in 1986.

Schatz enters the race again this season atop the outlaws win list with 24 to date while also again leading points. Other top circuit winners this season are David Gravel, 9; Shane Stewart, 8; and Sweet and Pittman, 7.
