South Australian Jamie Cobby turned back the clock as he captured the opening round of the Revolution Racegear Sprintcar Track Championship defeating current state champion Steven Lines and Luke Dillon in one of the best 25 lap A-mains we have ever seen at the venue. After starting from position five in the 18 car field Cobby didn’t take the lead until three laps to go after finding the bottom groove on the multi lane race track to his liking.
“It was a hard fought race, one of those races you couldn’t do anything but race hard. I was confident enough to move around the track and I found a line that the others were not running. There were a lot lapped cars so you couldn’t really tell who you were racing. The first time that I knew it Steven (Lines) was when I was alongside him. It was one of the raciest tracks I have ever seen here. I was a real credit to (Jeff) Harris (Track curator) for the track, no dust and multiple racing lines” commented an elated winner moments after the feature event.
“It feels really good to win again in the number 12. We won 3 features races in a row with 12 on my car in my early years so it great for my family, crew and sponsors, a real team effort. It’s a great way to start off the track championship and I am looking forward to racing the whole season here”.
Fourth place went to an impressive Eddie Lumbar with Nick lacey, Phil March, Mark Reuter, Glen Sutherland, Ricky Maiolo and Danny Pestka rounding out the top ten.
The 360ci Sprintcar feature went the way of Australian Champion Ryan Jones, with Mark Caruso and Adam Currie rounding out the top three.
