Can Johnson Do it Again at Parramatta?

From WSS

The Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Championship is gearing up for two nights of action during round 11 at the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway in Sydney this weekend.

Defending champion Brooke Tatnell is slowly creeping towards a record eighth championship. He is 47 points ahead of Max Dumesny and 54 ahead of Robbie Farr.

Farr still has a mathematical chance to win the series, however crashing out of the B-Main at Avalon Raceway during round 7 lost the team a bunch of points. “That night was devastating for us,” explained Farr. “We have been doing this long enough now to know that that was the end of our World Series championship right there. The worst part is the reason to why we qualified so bad and ran so poorly in our heats is still a mystery to us. We are normally very good at Avalon and did nothing different to any other time.”

“Up until Avalon I was really happy. We have had a pretty good year, and have been super fast. I think it’s only natural that you start thinking about the championship when you are caught up in the whole points battle (but) to be bluntly honest, I don’t care if I finished second or tenth now. No one remembers who finishes second. From now on they are just another race meeting that we are going out there to win,” said Farr who went to Toowoomba with that attitude and won.

However Krikke MotorSport Team Owner Shane Krikke says it’s never over until it is over. “Our first year on World Series we won half of the rounds including the first six and Brooke missed a round and still won. If we had a forty plus point lead heading into the final race it would be different but Robbie or Max could go on a tear and we could have some problems but we are very happy to be that many points in front at the moment. We will stay focused on the job at hand and the points will take care of themselves.

“Heading back to TPCR I am a lot happier than when we went there prior to Christmas. The following week we won the local show and had a good run at the fifty (Scott Darley $50,000 to won Classic) and learnt some things so we are looking forward to adding more points and trying to win the race.”

Ryan Farrell is fourth on the ladder and is still chasing that elusive win for 2009/10. “From my point of view we have done well keeping our nose clean and continuing to rack up the points, but if I’m going to move up the ladder I have to start getting wins.

“I want a win bad to thank everyone who has supported me this year, Luch, the boys on the crew, our sponsors and of course our fans who keep supporting us as every week. It would be a great way to say thank you to all of them,” said Farrell. The series wraps up in his home state of Western Australia where Farrell has a PWWSS win on his resume at Kalgoorlie in 2002/03.

American Jason Johnson has clawed his way into the top five after missing the opening round and he won the last event at TPCR in December. As always there will be plenty of locals hot on the heals of the contracted drivers with 53 nominations received thus far including Tim Schaffer from the USA and former champions Garry Brazier and Skip Jackson.
