JACKSON, Mn. (May 5, 2010) – That sage observation your father made years ago is true: The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Steve Kinser won the World of Outlaws sprint car race at Jackson Speedway, overcoming a crazy race for second place in the second half of the event. No surprise there, Kinser is a 20-time Outlaws champion. Sam Hafertepe Jr. established a new track qualifications record, one of eight drivers to break the existing Outlaws record at the venue.

And it all happened on Goodyear tires. Goodyear is the exclusive supplier for rear tires for the Outlaws Sprint Car Series. The front tire positions on the cars are open to competition among tiremakers, but most of the teams use Goodyears on all four wheels.

Kinser’s win came after he raced furiously with Jac Haudenschild and Paul McMahan for second. The drivers went three wide at times before Kinser took the position on his way to the front of the field.

Haudenschild finished second, his third straight race in the top five. Lucas Wolfe, who started 11th, finished third, followed by McMahan and Craig Dollansky.

Hafertepe was the next-to-last driver to take to the half-mile oval during time trials, but he grabbed hold of history with a 15.601-second, 115.377 mph lap.

Jason Meyers registered his 13th straight top-10 finish and continues to lead the championship standings.
