Barnes Back in Victory Lane at Skagit Speedway

By Kaleb Hart

Round 4 of the Foothills Toyota Tundra Series saw four drivers visit victory lane for the first time in 2010. In the Associated Asphalt 410 division, Jayme Barnes piloted the Law Motorsports #33 XXX to winner’s circle for the first time since his Dirt Cup triumph last June. After starting outside row two, Barnes breezed around the outside of the track, finding a smooth line off the top of turns three and four en route to the victory. Travis Jacobson was second in the Performance RC #8r Eagle. Jesse Whitney was third in the Rocky’s Plumbing #88 Eagle. Heat Race wins went to Eric Fisher and Whitney. Barnes was fastest in qualifying.

Evan Funk visited victory lane for the first time since August 5th of 2006 in the Budweiser 360 division. Funk was a rocket early on, taking his Performance RC #8r Rocket to the high side of the track and lapping up to 4th place by lap ten when a caution came out. After the caution, Michael Harris kept him close and managed to show him a wheel coming into the final turns before Funk closed the door for the win. Harris was second in the foxy Lady Latte #44h XXX. Third was Devin Madonia in the Bayside Marine #42m Rocket. Heat race wins went to Madonia and Harris. Alan Munn set quick time.

Matt VanDerSys won his first career feature in the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints. After leading the first 8 laps, VanDerSys was relegated to second as Michael Bollinger knifed underneath for the lead coming to lap nine. With VanDerSys dogging him, Bollinger would lead laps 9-18 until VanDerSys made a savvy move in traffic, pinning Bollinger behind lapped cars. A lap 19 red flag would result in a green white checkered restart, with VanDerSys bringing home the proverbial bacon in the Timber Trax #30 XXX. Bollinger would exit the race under the red with no brakes, giving second to Steve Parker in the Construction Unlimited #23 Eagle. Third was Marc Schutte in the Rudy Blumenhagen owned #72 XXX. Heat race wins went to Schutte, VanDerSys and Clayton Sibley.

Tyler Ketchum was a rocket ship en route to his first victory of the year, leading all but one lap at the start of the Outlaw Hornet Main Event. Freddie Vela worked his way up to second with Ken Higby finishing third. Heat race wins went to Tom Warner and Vance Hibbard.
