This Saturday’s “JEGS Crown Midget Supernationals” at the Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway is the final pavement race in the Midwest for the USAC Mopar National Midget Series. The event also includes USAC Midwest Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns and Mopar .25 Midget racing.
Drivers to watch on the big third-mile Columbus oval will include Mopar National Midget point lead Bryan Clauson, Midwest Ford Focus point leader Jake Blackhurst and Midwest Young Guns point leader Cooper Clouse, plus July Columbus Focus winner and Eastern Focus point leader Scott Hunter.
Caleb Armstrong of New Castle, Ind. won last year’s “JEGS Crown” Midget feature and could be among top threats for victory again this year.
Clauson currently holds a 55-point lead in the 2010 Mopar National Midget standings entering the Columbus race. Tracy Hines, who stands third in the points, is only 64 behind with 74 available at Columbus. A National Midget title would make Hines USAC’s sixth “Triple Crown Champion.”
