ANDERSON, Ind. (June 16, 2011) – Racing action returns to Anderson Speedway this weekend with a double header racing lineup planned on Friday, June 17 with the conclusion of the Spring Championships and then Saturday, June 18 for the Ivy Tech Night at the Races.
On Friday Night, the conclusion of the Spring Championships will take place. Divisions that will be showcased in feature events include EDCO Welding Street Stocks, Figure 8’s along with Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 action.
Josh Poore continues to pace the EDCO Welding Street Stock division after earning his most recent victory on June 11. Other challengers this season include Josh Myers, Jacob McElfresh along with rookie J.P. Crabtree and veteran campaigner Randy Hoppes.
In the early stages of the Figure 8 division season, former champion Curtis Chapman and multi-time track titlist Nick Warner are locked in a close battle for the points championship. Other top five competitors include Josh Tharp, Bruce McFall and James Peterson.
Capturing early season victories propelled Jeff Williams into the Front Wheel Drive Oval points lead. Ron Phipps is ranked in second spot with Marshall Clark listed in third. Jamie Williams and Trevin Henson round out the top five.
In the Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 standings, Chris Teepe continues to be on championship pace with Elliott McKinney ranked in second position. The remainder of the top five includes Mike Alley, Kevin Henson and Trevin Henson.
On Friday, June 17, spectator gates open at 6 p.m. with the feature racing events starting at 8. A special admission price of $7 for adults with kids ages 6-12 admitted for $4. Children five and under get in free.
During the Ivy Tech Night at the Races, six divisions will be in action on Saturday, June 18, headlined by the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series. Other classes in action include Late Models, WMDH ThunderCars, Legends, Bandoleros and Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s.
The most recent H.O.S.S. Winged Sprint event at Anderson Speedway took place last October with Daleville’s Aaron Pierce scoring a thrilling victory with a last lap pass on former series champion Tim Cox. In 2011, both Pierce and Cox have scored H.O.S.S. feature victories in the opening two events. In the point standings, Cox leads Pierce by four points with Joe Swanson ranked third.
The Late Models will be featured in a 30-lap feature event. Terry Cater leads the point standings after recording the feature victory in the opening race of the season. Several drivers will contend with Cater in the return of the Late Model division to Anderson Speedway in 2011.
In the WMDH ThunderCars, Ronnie Rose visited the winner’s circle last weekend. Lonny Burton shows the way in the season points with other season strong performances being turned in by Hannah Lundy and Rob Allman.
The Legends return for the first occasion since their most recent event on May 14 when Ohio standout Bryan Nuckles drove into the winner’s circle after finishing ahead of John Robbins and Eric Black.
The Bandoleros will compete in a 15-lap feature and the Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s will make their second appearance in as many nights with a 15-lap feature on tap.
On Saturday, June 18, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program starting at 8. Adult admission is $12 with kids ages 6-12 admitted for $4. Children five and under get in free.
