Pittman claims second straight All Star win in Canada

All Star Circuit of Champions

By Brian Liskai

QUEBEC, Canada – (7-5-11) “Merci beaucoup.” Owasso,
Oklahoma’s Daryn Pittman will certainly learn those words after scoring his
second consecutive O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint
Car win in Quebec, Canada Tuesday at Autodrome Drummond Speedway.

“I’m just loving Canada right now. We haven’t been running that great.
About four races ago we ran second to finish up PA speedweek two nights and
in a row and came up here and won two. It’s just been a great team
effort…gotta thank Shawn and Glen-O for working their butts off. They just
keep giving me very good race cars so I can just go out there and do my
job. Thanks to Mike Heffner my owner and Jimmy and Rhino and the rest of
the team that weren’t able to make the trip up north,” said Pittman beside
his Lelands.com backed machine.

Pittman would dominate the 30-lap feature, leading from start to finish. He
and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer would lead the field to the
green with Pittman getting the advantage over Shaffer, current All Star
Eastern Region point leader Lance Dewease, David Gravel, Dale Blaney and
Stevie Smith. Shaffer, Dewease and Gravel would battle hard throughout the
first half of the race for second as Pittman was on cruise control. Dewease
would steal the runner-up spot on lap 10 with Gravel getting around Shaffer
for third on lap 14.

Dewease and Gravel would race side-by-side over the next11 laps before
Gravel would move into second on lap 27. The car on the move was Stevie
Smith, who would take fourth away from Shaffer on lap 27 and would move
around Dewease for third on lap 28. Meanwhile, with laps ticking off,
Gravel was closing on Pittman, but simply ran out of time. At the finish it
was Pittman, Gravel, Smith, Dewease and Shaffer rounding out the top five.

For Gravel, it was another top three – in fact the 2010 Ohio Sprint
Speedweek champion has a second, third and Tuesday’s second place run to
his credit for the last three All Star events.

“I was just riding around in the beginning and then got a little more
aggressive about half-way through the race. We had a really good car…we
just needed about five more laps,” said Gravel beside his P&M
Transportation, IGA Hometown Wheels, My Basement Doctor backed #89G.
