ASCS Canyon Region Schedule Revealed

– Tulsa, OK (February 10, 2012) – The 2012 schedule of events for the ASCS Canyon Region is now available. The schedule comprised of 21 dates will see the best non-wing driver in the southwest competing at five tracks in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

Canyon Speedway Park, located in Peoria, Arizona just north of Phoenix, will kick off the ASCS Canyon Region’s sixth season of competition in March and will host the ASCS Canyon Region a total of twelve times with several high profile events including the season ending Western World Championships in November which will also be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters as well as the ASCS Southwest Region.

Arizona’s newest dirt track, Arizona Speedway in Apache Junction, Arizona, will see ASCS Canyon Regional action on six occasions throughout the year. This will mark the second year that the 1/3 mile clay oval has been in existence and the first year the track has been sanctioned by the ASCS Canyon Region.

In addition to Arizona Speedway, three additional tracks have sanctioned with the ASCS Canyon Region for the first time. Cocopah Speedway, located just outside Yuma, Arizona will host the Canyon Region for one night in the month of May.

The American Sprint Car Series lone non-wing division will make its return to New Mexico for the first time since 2009 when the series raced at the former Hollywood Hills Speedway just north of Albuquerque. Along with a trip to New Mexico, the series will also see its first visit to Texas in the month of June. Out in the west Texas town of El Paso, the ASCS Canyon Region will spend one night at the El Paso Speedway Park before heading back through the “Land of Enchantment” for the series’ first visit to Las Cruces and the Southern New Mexico Speedway.

Jeremy Sherman enters the 2012 season as the defending series champion. Sherman has three ASCS Canyon Region championships to his credit (2011, 2008, 2007) to go along with thirty-three feature wins since the Canyon Region began in 2007.

The 2012 season marks the 21st year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
