PEORIA, Ariz. (June 11, 2012) – The winged Sprint Cars of the ASCS Southwest Region return to the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park for this Saturday night’s Second Annual Father’s Day Classic.

Joining the winged forces on the Saturday night card, which gets under way at 7:00 p.m., will be the IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Bombers. An open practice will precede on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

It will mark the first ASCS Southwest Regional outing at Canyon Speedway Park since April 7, when four-time and reigning series champion Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, NM, beat wingless regulars Bob Ream, Jr., and Mike Martin to the line.

The IMCA Modifieds take to the track with five winners in five previous events including Jason Noll, D.J. Wood, Tim Ward, Mark Stewart and most recently, Ricky Thornton, Jr., who topped this past weekend’s 31st Anniversary feature event at CSP.

Although shut out of victory lane, Anthony Madrid holds the advantage in the IMCA Modified championship points race at CSP with a 10-point lead over Noll. Cody Center, Steve Stultz and Guy Norton round out the current top five in points.

While Ty Weidner became the first repeat winner in Pure Stock action over the past weekend, Chris McCurdy, Jr., moved atop the point charts by just one marker over Joe Vlasity, with Steve Bitting, Marlowe Wrightsman and Jeff Carter filling out the current top five in points.

John Romero claimed his second Bomber feature win of the season on Saturday to climb to within five points of Trenton Setelin in the title chase. Nick Langer is tied for second with Romero, with Joe Peterson and Joe Setelin rounding out the top five.

The Dwarf Cars will take to CSP for the third time this year after previous wins by Greg Loper and Rick Godsey. Godsey bested a field of 43 entries in the most recent Dwarf Car action on May 12.

Tickets to Saturday’s Second Annual Father’s Day Classic are just $15 for adults, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
