PEORIA, Ariz. (July 22, 2012) – The red hot racing action resumes atop the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval with this Saturday night’s Summer Slam.

Headlining the Summer Slam will be the wingless Sprint Cars of the ASCS Canyon Region with Pure Stocks, X Modifieds, Southwest Mod Lites and ASCS Micro Sprint Cars filling out the night’s action.

Saturday’s racing action gets under way at 7:00 p.m., with an open practice preceding on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Those that have cracked victory lane thus far include Charles Davis, Jr., Jeremy Sherman, Dalten Gabbard, Colby Copeland and Michael Bonneau.

There will be plenty on the line as well, as the ASCS Canyon Region championship battle is as close as it gets with R.J. Johnson holding just a one-point edge over Davis, Jr. Gabbard is 77 points out of the lead in third, with Bruce St. James and Rick Ziehl rounding out the current top five.

Chris McCurdy, Jr., carries a nine-point Pure Stock lead over Joe Vlasity entering Summer Slam festivities, with three-time feature winner Ty Weidner another 27 points back in third.

The winner of the initial two X Modified features of the year, Jake Johnson holds a slim 8-point advantage over Jason George and John Foster, who are tied for second.

Tony Martin became the first repeat winner in six Southwest Mod Lite mains in the division’s most recent action on June 30, with other winners including Brad Weiss, Mike Ryan, A.J. Martin and Vince Perez.

After Josh Castro topped the initial pair of ASCS2 Micro Sprint Car features at CSP, winners since that time have included Garrett Guilkey, Dustin Cormany and Adam Milsap.
