Zimmerly Solid In Chico

PETERSEN MEDIA

Continuing his substitute role for an ailing Willie Croft, Zach Zimmerly returned to the scene of his first career feature event win, the Silver Dollar Speedway, for two nights of action aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ/Christian Stover Foundation/ButlerBuilt No.29.

Friday night action saw Zimmerly get off to a fast start as he timed in fourth fastest during qualifications against 44 cars that were signed in for the 20th Annual Fall Nationals.

Scoring a third place finish in his heat, Zimmerly would go on to finish 10th in the dash aboard his Brown and Miller/Sander Engineering/FK Rod Ends backed entry, thus putting him in the fifth row for the feature event.

With most drivers utilizing the bottom of the Silver Dollar Speedway, Zimmerly elected to utilize the high-side in hopes of finding some grip to get moving forward.

Though he wasn’t able to gain any ground up top, Zimmerly held strong as he didn’t go backwards and swapped the 10th and 11th spots with the Jason Statler and Gregg DeCairies.

Finishing in the 11th spot, Zimmerly was pleased with his results. “It was a tricky track, and I tried to get the top to work since everyone else was on the bottom. It’s hard to get going forward if you follow everyone, but I think learned a few things, and thank Willie Croft and his guys for their hard work all night.”

Saturday night was another complete show at the Silver Dollar Speedway, and for the second night in a row, Zimmerly timed in well as he put the Willie Croft Racing No.29 eighth on the speed chart.

A fourth place finish in heat race action put the Washington driver in the feature event, where he rolled off in the 13th spot for the 40-lap main event. Zimmerly again held his own for 40-laps as we worked towards the top-ten.

The last few laps of the feature event saw him battle with Mason Moore and Jason Statler, with the end result being a 12th place finish.

“Our car had good speed all weekend, and probably should have had a better finish on Saturday, but being out of a car for an extended period of time will slow you down a touch. It’s been a blast being back in a car the last few weeks, and I can’t thank Willie Croft Racing enough.”
