2012 King of the West, Jonathan Allard had high hopes of closing out him American season, however the 19th Annual Trophy Cup proved to be a nightmare for Allard, as a pair of flips marred his weekend.
With 85 cars on hand for the marquee event, JA shocked many on lookers as he turned a late draw in during qualifications into a seventh fastest effort during qualifications.
In heat race action, Allard was on the move until his motor let go, and he was forced out of the event. With not spare engines in the trailer, the team was fortunate enough to borrow a power-plant for the rest of the weekend from Tarlton Racing.
Making repairs, JA was able to take advantage of his front row starting spot in the C to transfer to the B, where he again found himself on the front row of that event.
While leading the B, JA attempted to get around a lapped car, but contact ensued, sending him into a series of violent flips, with him able to climb from his car with only bruises, but his Friday night was over.
Saturday night, JA was able to score a second place finish in his heat from his fourth starting spot, putting him on the front row of the B main.
Allard proceeded to score a convincing win in the B main, and was able to put his Williams Motorsports entry on the front row for the 50-lap feature event.
Unfortunately JA’s night would come to an abrupt and early halt, as he got into a rut entering turn one, and got up into the fence, ending his night.
“It was just not out weekend.” Said JA. “We had engine trouble, and driver trouble. Anytime you get that combination you’re in for a long night. I hate it for my guys, but we will be back.”
ON TAP: Jonathan is now scheduled to fly to New Zealand on Tuesday morning, with his first action taking place next week.
