November 6, 2012 – The season was capped off for Terry McCarl and the TMAC Motorsports #24 team last weekend at the World Finals at the Dirt Track in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event drew the best in the country including the 2012 Knoxville Raceway and Huset’s Speedway champion.
The Altoona, Iowa driver started things with qualifying on Thursday night. “It’s a tough show to make,” says TMAC. “You have over fifty cars there. The best of the East coast, Knoxville, ASCS and the Outlaws. We went out to qualify, and we were about dead last in the first set. We were fifteenth quick, which is really good. There were so many good cars, we were fifteen-hundredths off from the heat invert in the second set (25th quick) and that put us behind the eight-ball on Saturday.”
Starting outside row one, TMAC held down second for a while before a yellow flag flew in Friday’s heat. “I won the first start we had, and I had a shot at running top two,” he says. “Craig Dollansky got around me. I passed Jason Johnson for second, before the caution came out. For some reason, my motor stumbled a little bit on the restart and we ended up running third.”
He would finish 18th after starting outside row eight in the main event. “We started back in the feature, so we had some things we wanted to try,” says TMAC. “We just weren’t very good in the feature. We were rolled up, and couldn’t get through the corners well. We just kind of hung around where we were at.”
TMAC struggled to an eighth place finish in his heat in Saturday’s finale. “They had the track slick on Saturday,” he says. “If you were fast, you could make it through your heat. We should have been able to make it through. We were just off with the car all weekend.”
The B main didn’t go any better. “It had felt good qualifying, and in the first heat on Friday, but from there on out we were just bad,” says TMAC. “We started sixth in the B, and right away we got up to fourth in a transfer spot. I just couldn’t corner well, and we fell back to eighth.”
TMAC looks forward to 2013. “I’m excited about the move to Hoosier tires,” he says. “My setups are a little more conducive to them. Hoosier makes the best tire.”
The trip to Charlotte was made possible by a pair of partners in particular. “We were excited to have Super Flow helping us out at the World Finals,” says TMAC. “They also were with us at the (Knoxville) Nationals. The 212 Boiling Point Bar & Grill of Brandon, South Dakota made it possible for us to get down there as well.”

Larry Redding asks: Are you impressed with what kind of an event the World Finals has become?
TMAC Answers: I have to give the Outlaws and the people in Charlotte a lot of credit. You really enjoy being there. Looking at it as a promoter, it is just fun! When they first did it, I didn’t think they’d get as big a crowd, but it was sold out. What a way to end the year for the Outlaws. As a fan, I thought it was awesome with the fireworks, the racing was excellent, it was over at a decent time…it was just a heck of an event. I like the different vendors with fair food underneath. It makes you want to come back and win.

This Month in TMAC History!
On this week in 1992, TMAC embarked on the Slick 50 Series races in Arizona. TMAC ran seven races over six weekends that winter at the Manzanita Speedway near Phoenix in his own #27 machine following his rookie season with the World of Outlaws in the Offill #88. His best finish was eighth, coming on January 3, 1993. In the winter of 1993/1994, TMAC would return to the series in Arizona, this time competing in five features at the Canyon Raceway.
