Fresh off of an off weekend taking in the Sprint Cup Series race in Texas, Tony Bruce, Jr and his Bruce Racing team returned to action for a pair of races in the Southwest with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
Kicking the weekend off in Texas on Friday night, Bruce took to the El Paso Speedway Park looking to take his fourth series win of the season.
Starting on the pole of heat one, TBJ got a great start aboard his Oil Medics/Hincman/Eagle Motorsports entry, and picked up the popular win, and put his machine in the top-eight redraw.
Pulling the one pill, TBJ would line up on the front row of the feature event, alongside Logan Forler. When the green flag waived, Forler got the jump as he planted his right-rear in the cushion, as TBJ followed suit.
On what was a very tough track to pass on, TBJ held his own, as he stalked Forler during the entire 30-lap feature, but ultimately ended up in the second spot.
Saturday night the series continued West as they entered New Mexico and went to work at the Southern New Mexico Speedway.
On what was a very sloppy track early in the night, Bruce scored a fifth place finish in his heat from his sixth starting spot, and found himself in the night’s B main event, where he started in the sixth spot.
Needing to get into the top three to transfer, TBJ gave it his all, but was in the fourth spot and looking into the feature, but elected to take a provisional, and start the feature from the 23rd spot.
As the track began to slick off late in the nights, Bruce was able to put together a very strong run in the feature, as he worked up to the 13th spot when the checkered flag waived, and earned the night’s Pitstopusa.com Hard Charger award.
“These Eagle Motorsports cars have been working great for us as of late,” he said. “We were really good both nights, but unfortunately we started in the back of a heat on a greasy track, and were behind the eight ball on Saturday.”
Bruce would like to thank all of his sponsors, Hinchman Racewear, Pro Auto, Eagle Motorsports, The Oil Medics, Smileys, SWE, Maxwell Industries, FK Rod Ends, Butlerbuilt, Factory Kahne Shocks, Randy’s Racing Filters, DriversWebsites.com, Racinboys.com, Wilwood, Zemco Headers, Hoosier Tires, Pro Powder Coating, Fuel Safe, Bell, Weld Wheels, and ISC Racer’s Tape for their support through the 2012 season.
ON TAP: TBJ will close out his 2012 this weekend at the Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ, the same track Bruce opened the season, in victory lane.
