Peoria, AZ — (February 26, 2013) — A star-studded field of competitors will take to the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval this weekend as the popular track near Phoenix hosts the Sixth Annual Copper on Dirt on Friday and Saturday after an open practice session on Thursday night.

This year’s Copper on Dirt will feature four premier divisions, including the wingless, 410-ci USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, USAC Western Midgets, West Coast Late Models and IMCA Modifieds.

Reigning USAC National Sprint Car champion Bryan Clauson, who seemingly has a stranglehold on CSP with a Western World Championship victory last November and a Winter Challenge title to open the 2013 season, will contend for Copper on Dirt wins in both Sprint Car and Midget action, while Kenny Wallace is set to take on the West Coast Late Models and Kenny Schrader tries to take IMCA Modified honors after recently winning the Gator title at Volusia Speedway Park.

The Copper on Dirt marks the season-opening event for the USAC/CRA Sprint Car series that will likely be a heated championship battle between the likes of five-time and reigning champion Mike Spencer, Nic Faas, Damion Gardner, Brady Roa and Hall of Famer Rip Williams among others.

While Shannon McQueen reigns as defending USAC Western Midget champion, Keith Kunz brings a four-car team headlined by Rico Abreu and Christopher Bell to what is expected to be a stout field of Midgets.

The Copper on Dirt will also mark the season opening event for the West Coast Late Models.  Clay Daly is the defending series champion while R.C. Whitwell became the only repeat winner in series action with a CSP triumph last November.

Defending Canyon Speedway Park IMCA Modified champion Cody Center also launches his title defense at the Copper on Dirt as a stout field of Modifieds including Kenny Schrader and more will be on hand.
