(Lebanon, IN) Spencer Bayston, Clayton Gaines and Cole Fehr have all announced their intention to contest the 2013 Mel Kenyon Midget Series Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year award. The 17 year old Bayston hails from Lebanon (IN) while Fehr calls Coatesville (IN) home. Clayton Gaines is from Alexandria (IN).
Two of the three drivers have traveled the same road to get to the Mel Kenyon Midget Series in 2013. Bayston and Gaines, like many open wheel drivers, began racing in Quarter Midgets. Bayston progressed to Mini Sprints where he has had success and Gaines is making the jump straight to the Mel Kenyon Midget Series.
Fehr took the other popular road to the series, competing in Karting, picking up a 2nd in the 2012 Indiana State Dirt Karting Championships along the way.
When the season concludes, the driver who scores the most points on a 9, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 points schedule will win a new Simpson Helmet from Simpson World Indy. The drivers hope to join 2011 winner Jessica Bean and 2012 ROY Dameron Taylor as winners of the Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year award.

The 2013 Mel Kenyon Midget Series opens at Anderson Speedway on Sunday April 14. Race fans will be able to enjoy a full afternoon of racing thrills. The program will feature qualifying, heat races and features for both the Sprint Car Challenge Series, Built by the UAW and the Mel Kenyon Midget Series. The sprint car feature is scheduled for 100-laps and the Kenyon Midgets for 30-laps. Mel Kenyon will join the Sprint Car Challenge Series, Built by the UAW and Mel Kenyon Midget Series drivers for a fan appreciation autograph session.
