From Port Royal Speedway
Port Royal, PA – (March 23, 2013) – After waiting to see how weather conditions would truly turn out, Port Royal Speedway officials have cancelled the March 23 racing program, a second attempt at a season opener.
The decision was made at 9:15 am.
Despite other area tracks throwing in the towel earlier in the week, oval officials were hopeful that the forecasts of sun and highs near 50 made for Saturday would come to true.
However dank overcast skies and wind continuing Saturday morning and newly projected high temps of low to mid 40’s and a nighttime low in the 20’s doomed the show.
Numerous drivers and team owners notified officials of their thoughts on conducting the show while numerous others were polled, all indicating the need to hold off on opening the season.
Thus, Port Royal will try again to get the 2013 season underway on Saturday, March 30 at 5 pm with Kids Easter Night, giving away free chocolate Easter Rabbits to the first 200 youth entering the stands.
A kids Easter Egg scramble will also be held in the infield.
And, the first 400 adults entering the stands will get a free Port Royal Speedway schedule magnet courtesy of Juniata Beverage.
The first show of the season for the 410 sprints, late models and pro stocks is slated with general admission gates opening at 3 pm.
