Perris, CA — (April 5, 2013) — When Perris Auto Speedway hosts a show headlined by the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars this Saturday night, April 6th, it will kick off two very important charity drives. The track, also widely known as “Southern California’s Home to Major League Sprint Car Racing,” will begin its “Power of Purple” drive to collect $10,000.00 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. In addition, for the second year in a row, it will begin the “Tickets for Our Troops” program that sends active military members to the races. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday and the first race will be at 7:00.
Saturday will be the first of six nights the track will collect for the “Power of Purple.” The collecting will culminate on July 4th when the facility hopes to have raised a minimum of $10,000.00 to fight cancer. Over the past seven years, more than $80,000.00 has been collected at The PAS.
At all six of the races, fans will be able to make donations to drivers walking through the stands collecting money in their helmets at intermission and at the beer, concession and souvenir stands.
“Everyone has somehow been affected by cancer,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “Whether a person has had it themselves or has a friend or relative who has had it. It is a terrible disease and we are doing what we can do to help fight it.”
In addition, the popular “Tickets for Our Troops” program starts on Saturday. Fans can purchase tickets for $5.00 at the souvenir stand at any race and they will be given to an active member of the military for the May 25th, July 4th or August 31st races at The PAS.
“We started the “Tickets for Our Troops” program last year and it was a big hit,” Kazarian said. “A lot of the members of the military cannot afford to come to the races so this helps out a lot. We had fans coming up last year and buying 20 tickets at a time. We also had all of the active members on the track at one of the races and the fans gave them a standing ovation.”
While Kazarian spearheads the efforts, he wants to make it clear who is responsible.
“None of this would be possible without the best fans in racing,” the longtime promoter said. “We are blessed to have the great group of fans that we do. They love the races, are fun to be around and they support all of these charitable efforts. Once again, it is all because of our fans and we are proud that they are a part of The PAS family.”
The entire 2013 PAS schedule is listed at the end of this release.
