Saturday’s “Spring Fling” at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz. offers Buckeye, Ariz. driver Charles Davis, Jr. a couple of significant achievements.
He first will look to expand his lead in the 2013 USAC Southwest Sprint Car points, holding a 20-point lead over R.J. Johnson entering Saturday’s race. In addition, a victory would tie him with A.J. Foyt, Dave Steele and Bryan Clauson as the all-time leaders in USAC’s Arizona racing history. Foyt, Steele and Clauson each have eight, while Davis scored his seventh last month at Casa Grande, Ariz.
Saturday’s race will be USAC’s first at the new 3/8-mile dirt Arizona oval located at ET Motorpark southeast of Phoenix.
2013 USAC Southwest Sprint Car Standings: 1-Charles Davis Jr.-130, 2-R.J. Johnson-110; 3-Josh Pelkey-103, 4-Ronnie Clark-101, 5-Justin Quinn-96, 6-Brian Hosford-93, 7-Bryan Swinehart-92, 8-Tom Ogle-90, 9-Nick Aiuto-87, 10-Mike Bonneau-69.
