Andy Gregg has been knocking on the door at the Placerville Speedway the last two weeks, and on Saturday night the Placerville, CA native kicked the door in and picked up his first win of the 2013 season.
“It is awesome to get back and win in front of my home crowd,” he said. “We have been really good the last couple races, and I knew we were close.”
Starting fourth in the feature event, Gregg jumped to third on the start aboard his Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing No. 53 as he eyed second running Andy Forsberg.
Slipping past arch-rival, Forsberg on the second lap, Gregg looked for more, as he set his sights on early leader, Mason Moore.
With the track slick, and very racy, Gregg was able to catch more on the fifth lap, and made his winning move on lap six, as he slid up in front of Moore, and never looked back.
Pacing the field comfortably, Gregg hit his marks, as we worked through thick traffic.
On the 17th lap, something looked to go wrong for Gregg, as he briefly got out of shape, but he quickly gathered himself and held the lead. Gregg would later report that his left front shock broke.
Gregg would wrestle his car around the tight bullring for the final eight laps, and picked up a very popular win in front of the full Placerville Crowd.
“I am pumped up to get a win here, and to do it with our group of amazing sponsors is very gratifying,” Gregg said. “I cannot thank my crew, Brian, Zac, Aaron, and Robert enough for working their butts off for me all year. This win is a credit to them.”
Starting off the night, Gregg timed in second quick, before finishing fifth in his heat race.
Andy would like to thank Coors Light, LivFast Clothing Co., GUTS Racing, Meyers and Son Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, Eagle Motorsports, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Hinchman, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and 103.5 The Blaze for their support in 2013.
