Back in action with a 410ci engine under the hood of his Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing No.53 for the first time in over a month, Andy Gregg had plenty of speed though he wasn’t able to record the finishes he had hoped for.
“We were fast all weekend, we just had our share of bad luck both nights, but we will move forward from here and keep grinding,” he said.
Looking to back up his last week at the Placerville Speedway, Gregg was in action against the King of the West Series, and thrilled him hometown crowd, as he started the night off timing in third fastest.
A third place finish in his heat put the Meyers and Son Drywall/Ervin Sales/K&N Products machine both in the feature, and the all-important dash.
Following the ‘Grudge Draw’, Gregg would line his machine up in the fourth spot, and a fourth place finish would put him in the second row for the 30-lap feature.
The night went south quickly for Gregg, as the hometown driver, got sideways in turn one, and ended up getting upside down, ending his night before a lap got completed.
“Our guys worked hard all of Friday night to get our car ready for tonight after Chico, and we were pretty good all night,” he said. “Unfortunately we were in someone’s way on the start, and we ended up getting upside down.”
On Friday, Gregg returned to the Silver Dollar Speedway for the first time since hurting an engine, and continued to be strong at the Northern California track.
With 21 cars in the pit area, Gregg flexed his muscle, and set the tone early as he topped the speed chart in qualifications.
Starting sixth in his heat, Gregg scored a fifth place finish, giving him his time back for the feature event.
With the four-inversion pill being pulled, Gregg lined up in the second row for the feature event.
On the lightening fast surface, Gregg ran comfortably in the fourth spot for the first ten-laps until the lone caution flew.
Back underway Gregg ran in the fourth spot as he faced pressure from Willie Croft, Kyle Hirst and Rico Abreu.
On the 13th lap, Gregg looked to lose power for a brief moment, but it was enough to lose several spot.
Getting back underway, Gregg found himself in the 12th spot, where he eventually would finish.
“We had a little issue in our engine during the feature, and we slipped back from fourth to 12th,” he said. “We were able to get it fixed for Placerville, but it’s disappointing when something happens and you get knocked out of a top-five.”
Andy would like to thank Coors Light, LivFast Clothing Co., GUTS Racing, Meyers and Son Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, Eagle Motorsports, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Hinchman, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and 103.5 The Blaze for their support in 2013.
