After a two-week hiatus from weekly completion at the Placerville Speedway, Andy Gregg defended his win from the last show, as he picked up his second win of the season with an ill friend on his mind.
“It is great to get another win in front of the home crowd,” Gregg said. “And it’s even more special to win after the moment I shared with ‘Big R’, Scott Russell’s father, who unfortunately passed yesterday, prior to Saturday’s event.”
The night itself started out great for Gregg, as he led the way in time trials aboard his Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing No.53, putting him in the third row of the first heat.
A fourth place finish in his heat, transferred him to the feature event, but Gregg’s engine did not sound right, and his crew went to work.
“When we rolled out of the trailer for hot-laps, the engine felt great,” he said. “As the night wore on, it had plenty out power, but it didn’t sound as crisp as it should.”
Going through everything they could think of, they finally discovered an issue with their air-cleaner, so after putting on a fresh K&N air cleaner, Gregg hot lapped quickly with the B main cars, to make sure their issue was resolved, which it was.
Starting in the fourth row on the high-banked ¼ mile facility, Gregg muscled his way up to the third spot in just three laps, when the first caution flag of the evening flew.
On the ensuing restart, Gregg raced his way into the second spot, as he chased down early leader, Joey Magurah, and flew around the outside of him in turn four the grab command of the race on lap four.
Out in front, Gregg was in cruise control as the Meyers and Son Drywall/Ervin Sales Group/K&N Products backed entry was simply in a league of it’s own on Saturday night.
When the dust settled, Gregg climbed from his machine, and celebrated his second win of the season in front of the capacity crowd.
“First of all I want to wish all the Mothers that came here tonight a happy Mother’s Day, its great to see another big crowd,” said Gregg. “I just really have to thank my sponsors and my crew for everything. We got the motor in the car last night and this Coors Light car was fast tonight. We’ll be looking to come back and try it again next week.”
With the win, Gregg has now climbed to within three markers of points leader, Andy Forseberg.
Andy would like to thank Coors Light, LivFast Clothing Co., GUTS Racing, Meyers and Son Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, Eagle Motorsports, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Hinchman, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and 103.5 The Blaze for their support in 2013.
