From Lernerville Speedway
Sarver, PA — (May 15, 2013) — With two weeks of Fab Four Racing in the books, Eric “Turkey” Williams finds himself in a familiar position, but in unfamiliar territory. See Eric Williams is no stranger to being a points leader; in fact he is the Defending Track Champion at nearby Mercer Raceway Park. But this is the first time in his brief but fast rising career that he has led the points at Lernerville Speedway.
Mat Williamson has led the Budweiser points in the Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Northeast Modifieds from the get go; winning his heat and then feature Opening Night and maintaining that lead after replicating his Opening Night win in round two on Friday, May 3.
Dave Hess Jr. (2010/2011) and Corey McPherson (2012) have Lernerville Track Championships on their resumes, but while it’s “business as usual” for these two, there’s always an added measure of pressure being the Budweiser Points leader.
Williamson and McPherson enter May 17 as defending feature winners. Eric Williams is still looking for his first feature win of the season; Jack Sodeman Jr. and Cap Henry have scored Peoples TWP Sprint wins in the early going. Dave Hess Jr. won the Precise Late Model feature Opening Night and finished second to Davey Johnson of May 3. Williams has swept the Diehl Mods features, while Bob Egley preceded McPherson in Sheetz Victory Lane on Opening Night in the Pic-A-Part Sportsman.
This Friday, May 17 is Armed Forces Night. All service men and women will be admitted FREE in uniform or half-price ($7) with a valid Military ID or discharge papers. Special recognition and select door prizes will be given to the brave men and women who have served and/or continue to serve our country at home and abroad throughout the night. It is also Twin State Night as our friends from the Twin State Auto Club Racing make their annual visit to the speedway. The fine folks from the Twin State Club support racing throughout Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.
Don’t forget that the $5 coupons purchased on Breast Cancer Awareness night are valid for this Friday, May 17! In case you missed it in the May 3 Race Report, our generous fans donated $1162 to the Komen for the Cure foundation!
In other generosity/charity notes, “Cowboy” Brian Steinman – injured last summer in a horrific wreck in turn four – will receive his all-terrain chair this Saturday, May 18 at Mercer Raceway Park thanks in large part to the generous donations of Western PA race fans and brought to fruition by the Steve King Foundation. Please make plans to attend this emotional night of giving back to the man who has been such an inspiration throughout his ongoing recovery!
