Andy Gregg rebounded from a nasty heat race flip, and just narrowly came up short at taking his third straight Placerville Speedeway feature event win, and settled for a second place finish behind Shane Golobic on Saturday night.
“To even be in contention to win after that heat race crash is a huge testament to this team,” Gregg said.
With 24 cars on hand, Gregg opened the night up by timing his Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing machine in third fastest, putting him in the third row of his heat race.
During heat race action, Gregg was involved in a nasty accident in turns three and four, that saw his machine airborne very high, and flip several times.
Uninjured in the wreck, Gregg and his team went to work to get the car ready for the B main, which they were able to do.
Picking up a second place finish in the B, Gregg found himself in the second row of the feature event as the ‘0’ pill was pulled to set the line up.
Jumping up to the third spot on the opening lap, Gregg rocketed around Shane Golobic and Andy Forsberg to grab the early lead, much to the crowd’s delight.
Pacing the field out front, Gregg began to feel pressure from Golobic as he entered lapped traffic, and lost the lead on the 10th lap, as Golobic had the opening that he needed to sneak past.
In the second spot, Gregg kept Golobic within striking distance, as he gave him everything he could handle, but wasn’t able to get around him, and settled for second after a very eventful night.
“I cannot say enough about everyone who had their hands on our car helping,” Gregg said. “I thought we were done for the night, but my guys and some other people came together, and put a really fast racecar under me tonight.”
