In action for a pair of California Civil War Series events over the Memorial Day Weekend, Andy Gregg rebounded from a Saturday night DNF to score a second place finish at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Sunday night.
With repairs made to the Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing machine following a nasty wreck last weekend, Gregg opened his weekend up by setting the standard during qualifications at the Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night.
Starting in the third row of his heat race, Gregg got into a bit of trouble early in his race as he got spun around, but the Placerville, CA chauffer was able to rebound from the incident and transfer into the feature event.
Starting in the sixth spot of the feature event, Gregg was very strong on the extremely slick track, as he was able to carve his way up to the second spot by the time the field was shown the cross flags signaling the halfway point.
Racing in heavy traffic, Gregg put pressure on race leader Justyn Cox, but was unable to sneak underneath him, as third running Shane Golobic began challenging for the second spot.
With Golobic getting under Gregg, slight contact was made deflating Gregg’s left front tire, and he elected to pull into the pit area, and was scored in the 19th spot.
“We tried some different stuff this weekend, and we were pretty good on Saturday night,” he said. “The track was very tough to pass on, but we were able to get up to the front, and unfortunately we had a little contact with Golobic, and that knocked us out of the feature.”
Sunday night, Gregg and his team were at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA to cap off the holiday weekend double header, again against the California Civil War Series.
On a very slick track, a late qualifying draw saw Gregg time in his Meyers and Son Drywall/Ervin Sales/K&N entry 14th fastest.
Starting in the second row of the second heat, Gregg would tally a second place finish, and transfer to the feature event, where he found himself starting on the pole of the 30-lap feature event.
When the green flag dropped, Gregg hit the loud pedal and got the jump over Mason Moore.
On the extremely slick surface, Gregg took off from the field, and hid, as he was the class of the field early.
Racing in lapped traffic, Gregg saw his lead evaporate, as Moore pulled in on his rear bumper, and began to pressure the Placerville, CA shoe for the top spot.
Lapped traffic did not work out in Gregg’s favor, as Moore was able to slip past him, and Gregg settled for the second spot.
“We were awesome all weekend,” he said. “My crew proves night in and night out that they are the best in the business, and unfortunately we came up just a little short on Sunday. Lapped traffic did not go our way, so we will take the second and move on.”
Andy would like to thank Coors Light, LivFast Clothing Co., GUTS Racing, Meyers and Son Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, Eagle Motorsports, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Hinchman, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and 103.5 The Blaze for their support in 2013.
