Atlanta, GA — (July 23, 2013) — The Atlanta, Georgia based United Sprint Car Series (USCS) invades Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi on Friday and Saturday, July 26th and 27th as headliners of the Ellis Palasini Black Widow Classic. The action-packed two-day racing program honors open wheel racing legend Ellis Palasini from nearby Leland, Mississippi.
This event will be the second United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters appearance of the 2013 season to the Delta’s fast high banked ¼ mile Gumbo clay oval. on the same night for The event awards National and regional series Championship points each night and is expected to bring top winged sprint car drivers from at least six states to the challenging 1/4 mile high-banked oval seeking at least one stop in the www.RockAuto.com victory lane.
An action filled racing program awaits fans when things get kicked off on Friday night. The powerful USCS sprint car racing format will include test and tune hot laps followed by time trials and the evening’s first sprint car race, the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash that showcases the top six cars from the previous USCS main event in an edge-of-your-seat six-car shootout. Next up will be qualifying heat races followed by Last Chance/B-Main race(s).
The evening’s grand finale will be the USCS winged sprint car A-main event for the cars expected to reach speeds over 100 miles per hour at Greenville Speedway. Also on Friday night’s racing card will be a $500 to win Street Stock race plus a full racing program in the Mini Stock and Stinger divisions.
On Saturday night, the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint cars return with another full racing program including test and tune hot laps, qualifying races and the B and A main contests. The Ellis Palasini Black Widow Classic Championship Finale is scheduled to pay $2000 to the winner of the 30-lap USCS contest. The race will award USCS National Championship points and USCS Mid South Thunder Tour regional series points.
Three previous winners of USCS winged sprint car events at Greenville Speedway are expected. Those include ten-time USCS National Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee who won on the series second visit in September of 2007. Also entered is three-time Gumbo Nationals Sprint Car Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas.
The third is Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas who leads the series National point standings and has seven USCS 2013 feature wins thus far into the season. Hagar is the most recent USCS feature winner at Greenville Speedway as he charged to the USCS Speedweek 2013 Round #2 win at the speedway on Sunday, May 27th. All three of these drivers plus many more top drivers from at least six states as far away as Texas and North Carolina are entered for this special sprint car event.
Additionally on the final night of the Ellis Palasini Black Widow Classic two-night racing program will be a Mississippi Street Stock Series sanctioned $1000 to win event plus the speedway’s Super Late Models, Nesmith Dirt Late Models and Pure Stock Car racing divisions.
Two of Ellis Palasini’s sons, Duke Palasini (Super Late Model points leader) and Mike Palasini (currently 2nd place in Super Street Stock points) will be competing in their respective divisions over the weekend that honors their Father’s legendary career. Mike “Little Mike” Palasini, Jr. will also race a Nesmith Dirt Late Model division car. “Little Mike” follows in the successful racing footsteps of his Grandfather, Father (Mike) and Uncle (Duke) as he is currently the speedway’s point’s leader in the Nesmith Dirt Late Model division.
