Up and Down Weekend for Dominic Scelzi

PETERSEN MEDIA

Dominic-Scelzi (2) Dominic Scelzi was in action with the Civil War Series and World of Outlaws over the weekend, and had quite the roller coaster weekend.

“We had a weekend that saw a little bit of everything,” he said. “It’s great to race with the World of Outlaws, I cannot thank everyone enough who make this possible.”

Scezli kicked off his weekend Wednesday night piloting his SE Inc./Redline Oil/Fowler Packing and Fuel Delivery Service No. 41 against the Civil War Series.

Timing in 18th fastest against the 38 cars entered into the event, Scelzi went on to win his heat race, and found himself starting on the pole for the feature event.

Getting off to a great start aboard his Panella Trucking/Sparco/RedRose Transportation Scelzi paced the field on the extremely slick for the first six laps until the caution waived.

On the ensuing restart, second running Justin Sanders used the restart to get a run on Scelzi and drop him into the second spot. A little contact ensued as they battled for the top spot, and Scelzi slid off the track, and fell back to the 10th spot.

As he worked on working his way back forward, rubber began being laid down, and he settled for the eighth spot.

In action on Friday against he World of Outlaws, Scelzi timed in 31st fastest, putting him in the fourth row of his heat.

The start of the heat saw Scelzi jump into the fifth spot, until the yellow waived. The ensuing restart saw Scelzi get out of shape and upside down, forcing him into the B main.

Lining up in the 12th spot in the B, Scelzi gave a valiant effort as he raced his way up into the sixth spot, but unfortunately he did not make the transfer into the feature.

Saturday saw the Fresno, CA driver time in 34th fastest, before finishing seventh in heat race action.

Lining up fourth in the C, Scelzi would finish fourth, and end his Gold Cup earlier than desired.

Continuing on with the World of Outlaws on Sunday night, Scelzi timed his Kaeding Performance/Factory Kahne/K&N Backed entry in 22nd fastest.

Starting sixth in his heat, Netto ran in the fifth and final transfer spot, until he was forced to check up, and slipped back to seventh, and found himself in the second row of the B.

Running in the fourth spot of the B most of the race, Scelzi worked the highside of the speedway in turns three and four, as he and Paul McMahan battled for the final transfer spot.

Slipping back to fifth, Scelzi used a monster run to sneak past DJ Netto at the stripe to transfer to the feature event.

Starting 22nd on an extremely slick and abrasive track, Scelzi slowly got through traffic as he gut up into the 14th spot, until he got a piece of an accident, and was forced to the back.

Restarting 22nd, Scelzi again was patient as he carved his way up to 12th. Following a red, Scelzi’s tire cooled off, and he ended up slipping back to a 16th place finish.

“It was a wild weekend for sure, but I learned a ton, and think it will really help us finish out the season strong,” he said. “There are some big races in California that I would love to win, and I really think this weekend helped us.”
