Hopping into the Clyde Lamar owned No. 3C machine over the weekend, Chico, CA driver Jonathan Allard recorded a third place finish at the Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night, just one night after being involved in a tangle while leading at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA.
“I have to thank Clyde and Marion Lamar for the chance to run when I didn’t have anything else scheduled,” Allard said. “We had a pretty good car both night’s, and really were capable of winning both nights.
Taking to the Ocean Speedway on Saturday night, Allard timed in 11th fastest, putting him on the pole of his heat.
A mechanical gremlin slowed Allard and he ultimately was scored with a seventh place finish, putting him ion the front row for the B Main, which he won, and lined up in the sixth row for the feature.
In the feature, Allard worked his way though traffic as he worked inside the top five by the fifth lap.
Continuing to search for more, Allard took advantage of a lap 15 restart, where he took the second spot from Koen Shaw, and began chasing after leader, Bud Kaeding.
Exiting turn four on the 23rd lap, Allard was able to drive around Kaeding to take the lead on the 24th lap, and getting into turn three, the duo made contact in traffic, resulting in Kaeding getting upside down, and Allard having significant damage and ending his night.
“We got into the lead, and unfortunately Bud and myself got together. I hate it for my guys, as we had a pretty good shot at winning,” he said.
Heading to the Marysville Raceway Park for the first time all year Allard timed in 12th fastest, before starting 11th in the feature event, on the very racy MRP surface.
When the green flag waived, Allard and Mike Monahan got together and Allard slipped back to the 15th spot, and then it was on.
Working the bottom in turns one and two, and working around the top in three and four, Allard was picking off cars at will, as he looked to catch up to the lead pack.
Breaking into the top five, on lap 14, Allard took over the fourth spot, after Andy Forsberg got a flat, as he chased after Sean Becker, Shawn Wright, and Andy Gregg.
Getting past Wright late in the feature in one and two, Allard chased after Becker and Gregg as the leaders were in heavy traffic.
With the white flag waiving, Allard closed in, and as Becker made his move for the win, Allard darted low, and narrowly missed out on scoring a second place finish, and settled for the show position.
“All in all, it was a fun weekend racing with these guys,” he said. “We tore some stuff up on Friday night which is never good, but aside from that, I had a blast.”
