Lubbock, TX — (March 17, 2014) — After a long offseason, racing is finally starting for Graves Motorsports.
The team kicks off its 2014 season this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“Our goal would be to start off hopefully better than last year and to have a good, positive weekend,” Graves Motorsports Driver Kolt Walker said. “Making the show and getting some points is the objective; just a good first weekend to break everything in and have no issues.”
In addition, the doubleheader is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Lone Star Region – the series Graves Motorsports is aiming for a championship in – and marks the first two of 19 races on the current schedule.
“You’ve got to be pretty good at all of them,” Walker said. “You can’t afford to not have any good runs. It’s very critical to get off to a good start and get out front. It’s a lot easier to maintain it than to play catchup all year.”
The team scored its lone victory of last season at the unique half-mile track.
“It’s definitely a familiar place to us,” Walker said. “With ASCS, it’s kinda tough because it comes down to the draw. When you’ve got 50-to-60 cars and 60 percent of those can win, it all comes down to the draw and starting position in the heat races.”
