LINCOLN, Ill – March 31, 2014 – For the first time in series history, the MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores will open its season at Lincoln Speedway, in Lincoln, Ill.
Previous opening nights for the series came at Jacksonville Speedway and 34 Raceway.
The series boasts a 26-race slate in 2014 and is coming off its most competitive season, where 15 different drivers visited victory lane in 20 events during the 2013 campaign.
Besides boasting its largest schedule in series history, MOWA is also happy to kick the season off with its new presenting sponsor. Casey’s General Stores has come on board to help the series make its next big step. Casey’s General Stores is the first title/presenting sponsors in series history. Make sure to visit a Casey’s General Store location on the way to or from each MOWA Sprints Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores event this season.
In five previous events at Lincoln Speedway, the always-competitive ¼-mile bullring has produced five different winners – Korey Weyant, of Springfield (7/8/2011), AJ Bruns, of Lincoln (9/2/2011), Jimmy Hurley, of Springfield (6/15/2012), Jerrod Hull, of Sikeston, MO (7/6/2012) and Christopher Bell, of Norman Okla (10/11/2013).
Weyant, who piloted the Northrop Racing 83 to its first series victory during the series’ inaugural season, has an impressive record of a win and two third-place finishes in five starts. The Weyant family-owned 99W will be his mount of choice Friday at Lincoln.
Equally impressive is Hurley’s Lincoln Speedway record. The Springfield driver has a pair of second place finishes to go with his victory. Hurley is second all-time on the series win list with seven, trailing only Jerrod Hull’s 11 wins.
Hull is the three-time and defending MOWA Sprint Car Series champion and is expected to make a run at a fourth title this year. He had a bit of a slow start to 2013, as he waited until late July to pick up his first series victory, but consistency was the key for Hull who bested Bruns at year-end to earn the three-peat.
Other drivers that are expected to attend include Brian Brown of Grain Valley, Mo.
The opening practice session is slated for 6:15 with the first race to follow promptly at 7pm. Adult general admission is $20 while all kids 12 and under are admitted free.
