In two nights of action at the Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, CA, Jonathan Allard surged his way from 20th to 13th on Saturday night, before he lost power late in the feature on Sunday.
“It is not the start of the year that we were hoping for, but racecar wise we are starting to find where he need to be, now we have to work on putting complete nights together,” Allard said.
With throttle issue keeping him out of Saturday night hot-laps, Allard’s first laps at speed on the track were in time-trials, and he timed his Tri-C Machine/BR Motorsports/K&N Products entry in 20th fastest.
Going to work on his entry for his heat race, Allard started an finished in the seventh spot on a very narrow and fast race track.
Lining up second in the LCS, ‘JA’ settled into the second spot as the race got underway, and took the transfer into the feature into the feature event, where he lined up in the 10th row with Tim Kaeding.
When the race got underway, Allard and TK began battling each other, but as they battled, the duo was able to gain spots on the track, which was no easy task on Saturday.
As they exchanged positions, they inched closer to the Top-10.
Continuing to move forward, Allard was able to get under Jason Meyers and David Gravel, as he soon saw the Kinser family on the horizon.
Battling with the Kinser’s and Kaeding, Allard got into the back of Kaeding as he was forced to check up, and lost a little momentum, but was still able to salvage a 13th place finish.
Sunday night greeted Allard the rest of the teams in action with a slick, wide racing surface, and in time-trials, Allard timed in 20th fastest for the second night in a row.
Lining up seventh in his heat, Allard was able to avoid near disaster on the opening lap, as he jumped into the sixth and final transfer spot, and went to move directly into the feature event.
In the feature event Allard didn’t have quite the run he had on Friday, as he got into the 16th spot late in the race, but under yellow, his machine lost power, and he took his car into the pit area, ending his night with a 21st place finish.
“On paper it does not look good, but all of us are happy with where we are getting our car,” Allard said. “It is tough to start a new deal, and to work the kinks out with the World of Outlaws really make it tough, but Clyde and Marion Lamar have provided us with great equipment, and we will be okay.”
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-7, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1.
ON TAP: Allard and his team will be in action with the World of Outlaws on Friday night in Hanford, CA before starting the 2014 King of the West season on Saturday in Tulare, CA.
