(Lebanon, IN) Clayton Gaines, the 2014 Mel Kenyon Midget Series Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year, has set a goal for the 2014 racing season. He wants to win the series championship.
Gaines, an Alexandria, IN native, should understand the pressure of a season long point battle. In 2013 he and Chad Fehr waged a season long battle for the Simpson World Rookie of the year, with Gaines coming out on top by just 5 points.
When the season opens at the Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Speedrome Saturday April 19, Gaines will be racing for the first time at the historic 1/5 mile track on Indy’s eastside. The playing field for Gaines will be leveled against the series’ Speedrome vets Jessica Bean, Travis Young and Dameron Taylor by the new pavement on the racing surface.
Gaines 2014 Mel Kenyon Midget Series efforts will be sponsored by Hilltop Farms, Pierce Farms in Memory of Megan Hicks, Grays Remodeling, Genes Root Beer, Clark Insurance Group, Ingram Electric, Baledge Auto Body, McCleads Service, Community Bank, Keeslings Inc, Buck Farms, Same Pierce Chevrolet and Shaffer Photo Service.
Designed to be an affordable racing series, the Mel Kenyon Midget Series is for open wheel racers on a budget, drivers looking for open wheel racing experience and competitors whose goal is to have fun in a competitive series that keeps the travel reasonable. Bryan Clauson, Justin Allgaier, Dakota Armstrong, Bobby East, Chris Windom, Jacob Wilson and many more have raced Kenyon Midgets during their careers.
