– Friday and Saturday again saw Kerry Madsen put together two great finishes with the ‘Greatest Show On Dirt’, as the Australian pilot soared to a second place finish on Friday night in Salina, OK before rebounding from an early crash in Pevely, MO to pick up a sixth place finish.
“What a weekend we had,” Madsen said. “Friday night the track took rubber early, and we were able to grab a bunch of spots on the start, and we had a chance towards the end, but it was tough to make anything stick, and on Saturday we had another bad fast machine, but some bad luck made us earn a top finish the hard way.”
With 24 cars on hand at the high banked facility, Madsen timed his Keneric Racing/American Racing entry in seventh fastest, putting himself on the front row of his heat race, which he would go on to win.
Earning a spot in the Dash on the extremely slick track, Madsen would finish in the sixth spot, putting his GWM/KPC/Morrison Racing Engines machine in the third row of the feature event.
When the green flag dropped, Madsen was hard on the throttle and quickly shot up into the fourth spot, as he battled with Kraig Kinser for third. Getting around Kinser and then Schatz, Madsen got to second as he chased after Joey Saldana on a track that began taking rubber.
Making a bid at Saldana late in the race, Madsen couldn’t make a move by, and settled for the second spot.
Hitting the I 55 Raceway in Pevely, MO on Saturday, an 11th quick effort again put Madsen on the front row of his heat, which he won, and again earned a berth in the Dash, where he finished in the fifth spot.
The feature event saw Madsen, work his way up into the third spot by the 12th lap, when oil on the speedway caused second running Donny Schatz, and Madsen to get into the wall, with Madsen getting upside down.
After the crew, along with the crews of many other teams, got Madsen repaired, the Knoxville, IA resident thrilled the crowd as he rode the cushion from the back all the way up to a sixth place finish.
“My guys work so hard on a nightly basis, and it was awesome we were able to get it fixed and back on the track Saturday,” Madsen said. “I have to thank all of the people who helped us in the work are, as well as the Gavranich’s, American Racing, and all of our partners.”
With his effort over the weekend, Madsen has moved into fifth in the series standings.
