Though Andy Gregg and his GUTS Racing team faced adversity all weekend in Chico, CA, the team did not get discouraged as they fought threw and ultimately ended up with a 15th place finish at the Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial in Chico, CA.
“At the end of the night we don’t have the greatest finish on paper, but we had some funky stuff happen on Saturday, and my guys and some others busted their tales to get us on track for the B.
Forced to run the B Main on Saturday night, Andy Gregg took advantage of his front row starting position, and jumped into the lead.
A few short laps into the event, Gregg lost all brakes as the bolts on his caliper sheered off, but the Placerville, CA driver kept digging in his lighting fast Miller Fortune/Poor’s Equipment Repair/K&N backed entry backed machine, and fended off Jonathan Allard as he won the LCS, and earned a spot in the feature.
With the help of his own team, as well as a few other teams in the pit area, Gregg scrambled to get his machine ready for the A main.
Starting in the ninth spot, Gregg found himself in the work area a few laps into the feature event with a flat left rear tire, but his crew was able to make repairs, and get him back on the track.
Restarting, from the back of the pack, Gregg was able to get moving forward on the track that was tricky to gain spots on, and ended his night with a 15th place finish.
“I was just pumped we were able to get things together, and make the call for the feature,” Gregg said. “We had such a good car in the B, I wish we wouldn’t have had any issues, but it’s part of the sport. I have to thank everyone who had their hands on our car on Saturday, it really means a lot to have so much support.”
Friday night, Gregg hit the Silver Dollar Speedway for a Bradway Memorial tune-up, and Gregg had the dominant car.
Timing in sixth fastest, Gregg finished fourth in his heat, and he found himself with the coveted one-pill in his hand following the redraw, putting him on the pole for the 25-lap feature event.
During the main, nobody seemed to have anything for Gregg as he ran flawless, smooth laps, in front of the pack.
In traffic in the closing laps, Gregg took the white flag as the leader, but getting into turn one with a slower car, Gregg lost the handle, and forefitted the lead, and wound up with a 17th place finish.
“I hated Friday night so much for all of my guys and out supporters,” Gregg said. “We just kind had some bad luck with a slower car, and unfortunately gave one away, but we had a really great racecar. We have had great speed all year long, and we continue to run good, and we take the bad with the good, and we continue to work.”
Andy would like to thank Miller Fortune, Poor’s Equipment Repair, K&N, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, FK Shocks, Wilwood, Capitol Ace Hardware, 95.7 The Wolf, CTL Forrest Management, Nail Roofing, Meyers and Sons Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, Hansen Machine, K&T Fab, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Amerikote, and Hinchman for their support in 2014.
ON TAP: Gregg will be back in action on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway before climbing back aboard Scott Russell’s No. 14R machine at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
