PEORIA, Ariz. (June 9, 2014) – The mud will be flying once again as the USAC Southwest non-wing Sprint Cars headline Saturday night’s Fourth Annual Father’s Day Classic atop the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval near the Phoenix metro area.

In addition to the wild action of the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars, Saturday’s tilt also includes IMCA Modifieds, Micro Sprints, Pure Stocks and Renegades.  Racing action goes green at 7:00 p.m. with an open practice session on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. preceding Saturday’s action.

A winner of the most recent USAC Southwest card at CSP, the Salute to Indy finale on May 25, reigning series champion R.J. Johnson has moved atop the series point charts by just 13 points over Peoria’s Josh Pelkey.

Johnson topped the Salute to Indy finale for his first CSP win of the year in USAC Southwest Sprint Car action after posting a half-dozen triumphs atop the racy 1/3-mile oval in 2013.

Pelkey, who picked up his second CSP win of the year in May’s Salute to Indy opener, is nipping at Johnson’s heels in the USAC Southwest title chase with Charles Davis, Jr., just another nine points back as a three-way battle for the championship develops.

Shon Deskins and Matt Rossi round out the current top five in points with the rest of the top ten including Andrew Reinbold, Tye Mihocko, Mike Martin, Michael Colegrove and Nick Aiuto.

Ricky Thornton, Jr., has been a dominant force in IMCA Modified action with seven wins in nine outings including Winter Challenge competition.  With three wins in a row, Thornton, Jr., holds a 10-point lead over Cody Center in the CSP points chase with George Fronsman, Ryan Roath and Steve Stultz in the top five.

Dennis Carrier has topped two of the most recent three Micro Sprint events at CSP with John Parmeley the latest of four different winners in as many Pure Stock features as Chris McCurdy, Jr., holds a 5-point lead in Pure Stock points over Joe Vlasity.

With four winners in as many races, including a pair of points race, Renegade points are knotted at the top with a tie between Joe Peterson and Tate Allen.  Jason Crowe topped the most recent feature on May 10.
