Mercer, PA — (August 2, 2014) — Once again, an approaching storm front led to a postponement of the racing at Mercer Raceway Park. The show was to be a Saturday Night Live! program with bicycle races for the children. The younger set will get to compete on August 16, when the rainchecks and wristbands from last week’s cancellation can be used. Coming up next weekend, the speedway will host a doubleheader, weather permitting, of course.

Paul “Putsy” Kekich was a talented racer and one of the most beloved members of the local racing scene. The Park was one of his favorite tracks. Sons Doug and Mike, and grandson Adam, have followed in his footsteps by racing 410 Sprint Cars with success at the track. So, it is only fitting that Mercer Raceway Park will honor his memory with the Putsy Kekich Memorial on Saturday, August 9. That will be a complete program featuring all of the track’s exciting divisions. That special event will be presented by Sunburst Environmental and Bonnell’s Rod Shop.

Then, on Sunday, August 10, the BRP Modifieds will be looking to avenge their loss to Volant’s Lonny Riggs and his potent 358 Modified. It seems like ages ago that Riggs drove to victory, showing that the Approved Toilet Rentals Modifieds can indeed hold their own against the invaders on the tricky oval. Hopefully, the third time will be the charm, as the first two tries at holding rematch of Smackdown! fell to rain.

The remainder of August promises to be just as busy at the track. As noted above, August 16 will have the bicycle races added to the normal Saturday Night Live! card, courtesy of Approved Toilet Rentals and Ray’s Racing Collectibles. Then, the All Stars Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series will come in for a pair of races on August 23 and 24. You will not want to miss that historic event!
