(Perris, CA, September 10, 2014) Race fans from around the west will get their final look at the popular Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series before November’s 19th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals presented by All Coast Construction this Saturday night, September 13th, when Perris Auto Speedway presents the annual Glenn Howard Classic. After Saturday, fans will have to wait two months before seeing another sprint car race at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. In addition to the USAC/CRA cars, the PAS Senior & Young Gun Sprints and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will also be in action. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
“Saturday will be the final time these guys get to race before the Oval Nationals and the last time fans will get to see sprint cars here for nearly two months,” Perris promoter Don Kazarian said on Wednesday morning. “The
Southern California Fair comes in during October and we have one stock car race late in the month and then it is time for the Ovals. If teams want to try anything in live competition, Saturday will be there last chance to do it.”
In addition to it being the last sprint car race at The PAS before the Oval Nationals, it will be the last race in the series before then as well. After Saturday, teams will have two months off to prepare their cars for their highest paying race of the 2014 season. The Oval Nationals will pay $20,000.00 to win and $1,000.00 to start the November 8th finale. The total purse for the race stands at over $91,000.00.
In addition to Saturday’s race being an important tune-up, the fact that it honors Glenn Howard is not lost on anyone.
“This is a big race for everyone involved,” Kazarian said. “Glenn Howard meant so much too so many people for decades. He was a driver, owner, innovator and official. Such an important part of the history of open wheel- racing in Southern California. All of the drivers want to win the race named after him and will put extra emphasis on getting to the checkered flag first. It would be a big honor for them to have their name on the winner’s list of this event. They will be running hard all night.”
The car Glenn Howard drove in 1964. Saturday’s race will honor the late driver, owner, innovator and official.
After Saturday’s race at The PAS, the USAC/CRA Series will only have four dates remaining in 2014. November 7th & 8th at the Oval Nationals and November 14th & 15th at the 14th Annual Hose Advantage Hall of Fame Classic at Canyon Speedway in Peoria, Arizona.
