Tulsa, OK — (April 7, 2015) — One of the most anticipated events that was released on the AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories / Oil Capital Racing Series 2015 racing schedule this past winter, was an event tabbed as “Open Wheel Saturday”. Slated for this Saturday night, the event will be held at the Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha OK and will also have Powri West Midgets and the WOW wingless sprints on the program. Racing is set to begin at 7:30 pm.
Outlaw Motor Speedway promoter Chris Smith is the author of this special event and open wheel fans couldn’t br more delighted. “We understand that when there are different types of cars on the same program such as open wheel cars vs. full bodied cars, it plays out differently than when there is a specific style of race car on the schedule by its self,” said John Lemon of the AmeriFlex / OCRS series.
“There are fans who will go watch any class of car as long as it is racing and there are fans who want to see their preferred style only, ” explains Lemon. “Events like this to tend to cater to the open wheel fan that otherwise might pass on a show and this brings them back to the racetrack. At the same time, events like this can be a showcase to those fans who typically favor other types of racing. This gives us an opportunity to show those fans what we have to offer in racing entertainment. Three classes of open wheel cars on the same night that can have thrills and spills at any moment can get pretty exciting,” said Lemon.
This will be the second event for the AmeriFlex / OCRS sprint cars in 2015. The season opening event was held on March 28th at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway where an upset occurred when Nigel Calvert won his first career AmeriFlex / OCRS event. Dating back to the last eleven events of last season, Calvert’s win makes for 10 different winners on the traveling circuit in the last 12 races held.
Tulsa’s Sean McClelland is a threat to add his name to the mix as he finished second to Calvert at SOS and won a feature race on a local level at the Creek County Speedway in Kellyville last weekend, his brother Brian ran second. Brian scored two wins in the AmeriFlex / OCRS series last year.
Another dual winner last season was Whit ‘Gasman’ Gastineau of Moore OK. Gastineau came out of the gates running with wins in the very first two events and not long after, he suffered motor issues and then family commitments kept the team parked. Gastineau has 19 wins dating back to the 2010 season. Several eyes will be on Claremore’s Alex DeCamp. Although he ran four less races than some of his peers, DeCamp led the sprint car series with 5 victories in 2015. Andrew Deal, the 2014 AmeriFlex / OCRS sprint car champion will be in a team car to Brian McClelland as owner Kelly Fode had Deal in the second car at SOS as well. Deal was the hard charger that night coming from 18th to 7th. Come join us in what will sure to be a night of thrilling open wheel racing action.
